Uggie from the Artist and Harvey Weinstein on The Today Show (Blog Entry)

The wonderful Uggie the dog was a guest on the Today Show this morning (January 16, 2012, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) at 7:32am with Weinstein Company co-chair Harvey Weinstein. Uggie was introduced as a "scene stealer" by the Today Show anchors and Weinstein was asked about the "crucial bit of casting" done to bring Uggie on board.  Uggie was laying next to Weinstein the entire time with Weinstein still wearing his tuxedo from the night before, admitting that he had yet to go to sleep.

Weinstein spoke about the other films that he has up for contention (Madonna's W.E. and My Week With Marilyn starring Michelle Williams), as well as The Artist which he described as a "love letter to movies."

But back to Uggie. The Today Show anchors asked the critical question that all Uggie fans want to know.  "Don't you think [Uggie] should be considered for an Oscar?"  Weinstein responded by pointing out that while many of the award winners attached to his films had called him everything from "God" to "The Boss" to "The Punisher" last night in their acceptance speeches, at the end of the (long) day, it was him and Uggie sitting together being interviewed. "I [was] called everything last night. Look how I end up with the dog. . . here I am just hanging out with the dog 4:30 LA time."

The Today Show anchors requested a  final goodbye from Uggie. "Before we go we'd love to say goodbye to Uggie the dog." The anchors joked with Weinstein, asking "does [Uggie] perform on demand like some of your other talent." After a little encouragement off camera, Uggie obliged and began to bark and sit up.  "He's saying goodbye to us. . . we're in love."

We'll keep you updated on future Uggie appearances! Now on to the Oscars! Go Uggie GO!!!!
